Review: Mickey’s Malt Liquor

January 1, 2012
By

The smell is of corny sweetness, with some cheapo malt as well. It poured a deep transparent gold. Very nice for a malt liquor. The head was big, white and frothy. Also very nice. A layer of ice formed at the top simply because the mug had been frozen. Seems the alcohol content is pretty low for a malt liquor.

Now for the taste. It tasted like budget bread briefly dipped in corn syrup. It was sweet, maybe a little too sweet for me to want to drink a whole forty of it (I’ve had only a pint right now), but if it was too sweet, it was only very barely so. And it wasn’t that in-your-face sweetness. It was kind of a residual sweetness that just built up over time and was only a negative thing after I finished the glass. It had a taste I can only describe as stale bread. There’s somewhat of a sour taste in there too. There’s a hint of that fusel alcohol taste on the back of the sip, but only if the beer warms up. When it was ice cold, I didn’t notice it. But it’s a decent malt liquor. It may not be up to challenging OE, but it’s not TOO far behind. It’s just a good old malt liquor that’s a little too…sticky. That’s the word for it.

Note:
Swill is BAD. After it loses it’s carbonation, even if it’s cold, it’s no good. Too sweet. Just tastes like stanky corn syrup.
