New Cocktails for Thanksgiving

New Cocktails for Thanksgiving

Plymouth pilgrims didn’t drink pumpkin martinis, as far as we know. But that doesn’t mean you can’t break with tradition and pair liquor with the food on the Thanksgiving table. Though wine is the conventional go-to beverage when pairing food and drink, spirits and cocktails can make for some interesting match-ups and add a little novelty to the menu. So here at Today’sDrinker.com we have decided to share with you some of our favorite Thanksgiving cocktails. Try ‘em out, pour them down your family’s throat if only to make the gathering a little more bearable, and hey, if you have your own favorites, share them here, or even just post a reply with your thoughts. As always be safe for the holidays and don’t...

Get to know your beer and wine…

Oct. 1 marks the launch of Iowa City’s own Oktoberfest, and the triumphant return of the Iowa City Brewfest to, well, Iowa City (it was in Coralville for a number of years). You can get all the details with which to mark your calendar at NorthsideOktoberfest.com, but in the meantime, it seemed like a prime opportunity to discuss how to taste beer. I know, there isn’t much to it, right? Pour it in your mouth and you taste it. That’s true, but if you see beer as more than an alcohol delivery system, there are things you can look for to help you enjoy and appreciate a fine malt beverage. Some of them are the same as the sorts of things we talk about...

Uinta Brewery – Crooked Line of Beers

SALT LAKE CITY - Uinta Brewing Company introduces the newest addition to their Crooked Line of beers, Oak Jacked Imperial Wood Aged Pumpkin Ale. “Jacked” is a very limited, seasonal beer, only 850 cases were produced. Jacked is brewed with fresh pumpkin and fall spices and has been aging in Oak barrels for 6 months. The oak barrels add subtle nuances of toasted vanilla and bourbon notes. With an ABV of 10.31% (a play on the date of Halloween), Jacked is a big, unique pumpkin ale. Continuing with the spirit of the Crooked Line, Utah artist Trent Call was commissioned to design the Jacked label. Each bottle is a work of art. Pop the cork and pair Oak Jacked with flavors of the season!

Budweiser, the iconic and affordable staple in fridges across the world, is about to get a new look. The Budweiser cans (as seen here) will now be sporting a snazzy new bowtie. The new look is the 12th design since Anheuser-Busch began selling its flagship brand in cans back in 1936. The focal point of the design is Budweiser’s iconic bowtie, complemented by the time-honored Budweiser creed and Anheuser-Busch medallion.   From the original announcement… “Budweiser’s success is rooted in aspects of the beer that will never change – a crisp, refreshing taste, an unwavering commitment to quality and the enormous pride we take in each batch,” said Rob McCarthy, vice president, Budweiser.  “Our refreshed packaging design gives Budweiser an updated look, which dramatizes...

Daily Drink Specials Banned in Utah and That’s Not All

July 6, 2011
Down With314

Do you have a favorite bar or pub? Do they serve your favorite beer a few times a week as a daily special? Do you live to drink cheaply and imbibe that intoxicating fluid whilst saving a penny?  Well, sorry Utahn’s… Utah’s hospitality industry, long stymied by the state’s restrictive and often confusing liquor laws, is now suing over the latest batch of legislation that takes the ban on happy hours a step further and makes illegal any daily drink specials. Unfortunately the change is only one of many in a comprehensive liquor reform bill that became law this week, including an increase in the number of restaurant licenses but no movement on more bar licenses, a quota that is based on population and...

Alcohol Forgiven, Blame Turns to Testosterone

Alcohol Forgiven, Blame Turns to Testosterone

I am driving under the influence of testosterone, not alcohol… It has been a known fact that alcohol served at major scale sporting events is a primary factor in the increase of fatalities on the road after the game. We all know that alcohol and driving is bad, and we at Today’s Drinker don’t necessarily condone it (legal stuff). But luckily, there are much smarter people than my self out there, fighting to keep our rights as alcoholics, drinkers, consumers and even the light beer folks. A study was conducted by a professor at NC State, to determine if the testosterone of the fans is really to blame and not the alcohol. The study (found here) began by evaluating traffic fatalities after 271 games...
